Make sure you stay in the japanese-style twin room with a double bed. This hotel has a magnificent and convenient location next to a bus stop. And its around 10-15 minutes walk from downtown.

The room was fully equipped and had a private bathroom, which was a big plus. The natural onsen was absolutely amazing, and the fact that there was a private onsen in the hotel was a nice bonus. The location of the hotel was also great, as it was located in a small village and offered stunning views of the surrounding nature.
One downside was that there was no breakfast or dinner provided at the hotel, so it was better to buy something beforehand. Additionally, there were limited services in the village, with no shops or convenience stores available.

An Unexpected Delight: While staying at the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by the lounge equipped with vending machines. It felt like stumbling upon a treasure trove of treats, offering a selection of beverages that made me feel like a kid in a candy store. It was the perfect spot to indulge in some late-night cravings or simply unwind after a long day of exploring.
Minor Pricing Issue.

The location was perfect, with stunning views overlooking the beautiful river. We were also pleased to find that it was only 150m from the Kawayu Onsen bus stop, making it convenient for sightseeing. the best part was being able to use the facilities of the Sansuikan Mawayu Miyadori Hotel, especially the outdoor onsen. the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, always willing to help with transportation arrangements and provide helpful suggestions for activities. They even helped us navigate bus times in the region, ensuring we were able to explore popular attractions like the Hongu Taisha Shrine and Nachi Taisha Shrine. the hotel's picturesque location in the mountains and its proximity to the Sennin Buro bath were additional highlights. Plus, it was so easy to find, being just a short walk from the bus stop. Cons: Nothing, it was perfect! 👌.

As a group of friends, we loved the close proximity to the Kawayu Onsen river hot springs. We also enjoyed using the outdoor onsen of the neighboring hotel, which were free and offered a great experience. the staff were extremely helpful and generous, allowing us to use their shuttle bus and assisting us in choosing suitable hiking trails. the beds were super comfy, and the overall service was excellent. the hotel's location on the river provided a pleasant ambiance with a smell of cypress in the air. We also appreciated the convenient bus stop for Kii-Tanabe and Shingu, making it easy for us to explore the Kumano Kodo trails.

Clean and friendly onsen. Close to the river. Convenient bus station nearby. Adequate bathing facilities in the room. Nice thermal water in the onsen. Helpful concierge with clear instructions. Access to a restaurant and outdoor hot spring from a more expensive hotel. Clean and well-kept common facilities
Don't have any issues at all.

I had a wonderful stay at Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya! the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. the hotel's location on the river allowed for a beautiful view and the smell of cypress in the air. One of the best parts was being able to use the onsen/rotemburo of the neighboring hotel as if I were their guest. They even provided a free shuttle to easily start my hike in the morning from Hongu Taisha. Plus, the bus stop to Kii-Tanabe and Shingu was conveniently located just 50 meters away, making it easy to do one-day hikes along the Kumano Kodo and come back to relax in the onsen in the evening. a fantastic experience.
Nothing to fault. 😄.

We stayed at Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya for a few days while hiking the Komodo kodo. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, arranging transportation and giving great activity suggestions. The view of the river from our room was stunning, and we loved the connection to the hotel's outdoor onsen. The small bath/shower unit in our room was a nice surprise, and the thermal water in the onsen was gentle on the skin. There were a few basic restaurants nearby, and swimming in the natural pool in the river was a highlight. a great experience!
Would definitely recommend this hotel.
